Q: What do the gray blocks mean below the file size?

The gray blocks are a size indicator so you can easily see which results match your search criteria:

  • 1 block are the smalles files (bytes or kilobytes)
  • 2 blocks are slightly biggger (megabytes)
  • 3 blocks are the biggest releases so far (gigabytes)

Q: Why are my downloads interrupted by Chrome?

Some of our users reported us that the use of AVG 2012 and Chrome cause some problems when downloading. Chrome reports your downloads as 'interrupted'. It seems AVG 2012 is the problem and we advice you disable 'Search-shield' and 'Surf-Shield' to fix this problem. Many thanks to our user dec4!

Q: Some of the results I found are linking to content for which I hold the copyright. How can I remove those results?

Please contact us using the Notice & Takedown button above the results. We will process your request as soon as possible, usually within one day.

Q: Can you add a newsgroup?

Yes, we can add newsgroups to the list of groups we're indexing, you can submit them with our form. However, we are NOT a news provider, so we CANNOT add groups to Usenet, only existing newsgroups will appear on the site. (see next question)

Q: Why is the group I requested not available?

Although we are using several newsproviders, it is possible that none of them currently support the group. In that case, contact one or more newsproviders (such as Giganews, Astraweb, XSNews, UseNetServer, Eweka, etc.) to have them add the group. If the group is available from any of our providers, it will automatically appear on NZBIndex. (see previous question)

Q: I downloaded something which looks like spam or malware, how is that possible?

We have no control over what is posted on Usenet, and unfortunately the amount of spam on newsgroups has increased rapidly. We already use automated tools to filter some degree of spam, but not all spam is detected correctly. If you find any results that you think should be labelled spam, please let us know through the Spam button above the results.

Q: I have downloaded a collection of ZIP/RAR/etc files and the files seem to be password-protected, why is that?

Again, we have no control over what is posted on Usenet. It is possible that people upload stuff that they only wish to share with a specific audience. We use automated tools that try to identify protected archives, to be able to show you in the search results, but this software is not perfect. If you find anything that has a password, which is not already indicated as password-protected in the search results, please let us know through the Spam button above the results.

Q: Where can I find answers to other Usenet related questions?

The binaries4all site has a lot of tutorials and answers to many of your questions.
